Clinical Research is the drug development lifecycle. Clinical trials involving new products are classified into four phases. Clinical research involves the trialling of a drug or device to ensure its safety before it can then be released to market. The initial phase entails laboratory research, which involves experiments on animal and human cells. Following these findings this then has to be approved by a regulatory agency before proceeding.
Clinical Research professionals are tasked with supervising trials and collecting data ensuring patients are closely monitored and findings are accurate. The career path would start as a CTA working through the ranks to Clinical Project Management right through to Head of Department. Individuals working within clinical research will gain experience in specific therapeutic areas at specific phase levels.
